Overview of Lahaul and Spiti

Two characteristically distinguished districts of Lahual and Spiti merged into one large district in 1960 and became a major travelers’ paradise since then. The snow desert of Himachal was untouched and virgin of any outsider expedition until a decade ago. However, the discovery of some extremely important fossils and soil in the Spiti forced numerous paleontologists from across the globe to visit the state.

However, not only the scientists found the place important but also a number of travelers from around the globe found the place extremely adventurous and enticing. Every year hundreds of people travel to Lahual and Spiti district of Himachal to explore the valley and its culture. The valey is surrounded by lofty mountain ranges, with Spiti River gushing out of a gorge in the southeast of the district to meet Sutlej River.

The locals of Spiti follow Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism culture and are quite religious when it comes to their customs and religious practices. People of this land are humble and welcoming and know how to enjoy life. They participate in various colorful festivals of the region for trade and business purposes as well. One such festival is Ladarcha fair where Tibetan traders cross the border and come to Spiti Valley for selling their offerings.  It is a beautiful fun way to do business while engaging in fun activities.
