Overview of Chamba

Chamba is a town of inspiring beauty and alluring scenes, situated on the banks of Ravi River at its confluence with Sal River. The town of Himachal is historically relevant as many battles have been fought for its conquest by many Kings. Also, Chamba is a land of artistic exquisiteness as it is well known for its arts and crafts, particularly its Pahari Paintings, its handicrafts and textiles. Once you visit Chamba, don’t forget to buy the special Chamba handkerchief which is an embroidered handicraft and is very popular in Chamba generally given as gifts in weddings and functions.

Home to beautiful ancient monuments and temples like Lakshmi Narayan temple, Banni Mata temple etc that were built before 1846, Chamba holds a great place in the hearts of the archeologists. And visiting a place so ancient and historically prevalent is once in a lifetime opportunity. Besides, the experience of majestic snow-clad mountain ranges of Dhauladhar and Zanskar, Chamba appears like a dream. One of the few towns in Himachal that has such green pastures that are spread till acres is Chamba. Khajjiar being its major attraction, it attracts thousands of tourists and travelers every year. However, if your sould purpose is to witness some enchanting snowfall times, visit between November and January.

Akhand Chandi Palace

Location: Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, India

Famous for its distinct green roof, Chandi Palace was built between 1747 to 1765b by Raja Umed Singh. Later Britishers took interest in renovating the palace that was already designed intricately. Painted walls, glass work and intricate woodwork are some of the distinct features that make it absolutely exquisite.

Champavati Temple

Location: Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, India

Champavati Temple is a beautiful temple built in the Shikhara style with intricate stone carvings. It was built by the first king of Chambad Raja Sahil Varman in the memory of his daughter. The temple is located in the heart of the city and is also a huge pilgrimage destination for many devotees. However, if you aren’t among those god believers, it is a worth visit for its unparallel architecture.

Lakshmi Narayan Temple

Location: Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, India

It is not a single temple; Lakshmi Narayan is a complex of many small temples built in 10th century again by Raja Sahil Varman. The roof of the temple is adorned by gold plated pinnacles by Raja Chattra Singh who defeated Aurangzeb in 10th century. The temple is devoted to Vaishnav sect of Hindu culture and is a famous pilgrim spot for the followers of Vaishnavs.

Bhuri Singh Museum

Location: Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, India

One of the most important tourist attractions in the town, BhurI Singh Museum was built in September 1908. The museum is famous for collecting preserving the scattered cultural heritage of Chamba state. It got the name from Raja Bhuri Singh who had gifted inherited art collection to the museum and Dr. J.Ph. Vogel imparted his invaluable services for setting up this museum

Manimahesh Lake

Church of Scotland

Weather in Chamba

Chamba has a moderate climate and maximum temperature could rise up to 28 to 32 degrees Celcius is summers.  Weather is pleasant in summers but winters could be chilly and cold. Since the climate is changing every year, the winters aren’t that cold unless it snows.

Best Time to Visit

Well, you can visit Chamba all year round but if you want to avoid extreme chilly days, then go in summers. You can visit as soon as from April to June and From September to November for better experience.
