Dalhousie

Dainkund is the highest peak in Dalhousie at an altitude of 2755 metres above from the sea level and gets maximum snowfall during the winter season. If you have energy to trek a few hours and wish to get closer to the nature, don’t avoid going to this place full of scenic pleasures, river beads, flower gardens and much more.

Located at the Chamba-Pathankot highway, Chamera is a man-made Lake developed due to the Chamera Dam on River Raviat Chourah. Unlike other lakes which are created by Dams, Chamera Lake is a mystic lake covered with tall pine trees full of scenic pleasure. A lot of water sports like boating, fishing are also available here for the visitors.

Panjpulla means five bridges and it is a beautiful spot at a distance of 3 km from Dlahousie. This attraction appears a joint name for a waterfall and a memorial erected in honour of Sardar Ajit Singh. This is the reason mainly why Panjpulla is famous tourist attraction.

It is one of the top spot amongst hikers for hiking around the town. It is actually a bald Valley mostly covered with snow with not vegetation at all. It is small patch on the hill which has no trees and no vegetation and hence looks like a bald patch at the top of the hill. It is just a one hour trek to this place and valley is extremely serene and pleasant.

At a distance of 4 km from Dalhousie, this temple is a major tourist attraction enroute kalatop hill. It is small temple amidst thick woods of Bhulwani Mata. If you happen to visit around that time of the year when famous fair is celebrated here, you can witness a hint of culture of Dalhousie and Chamba.

Originally a cathedral, St.John’s Church is one of the oldest buildings built by the Britishers. Built in 1863, this British-style Protestant church features glass paintings of Saints John & Peter.

Well, when on trip, shopping can’t go ignore. So, splurge as much you want at the famous Gandhi Chowk in Dalhousie, Chamba. A lot of variety is available here for shopping for all age and size. Besides, don’t forget to buy some traditional fabric of the town particularly the embroidered handkerchief of Chamba.

Visit St Patrick’s church to attend a weekly service that is attended by locals and tourists in Dalhousie, Chamba. Located only 2 kms away from bus stand, the Church has tall building and a huge hall that can accommodate around 300 people.

A very famous destination in Dalhousie, Subhash is Baoli is named after Subhash Chandra Bose as it is said that he used to spend a lot of time contemplating there during the pre-independence days. 

Subhash Baoli is a charismatic spot amongst huge towering pine trees and its water is known for its medicinal properties.

A place is worth visiting if you would like to admire the scenic beauty of the town. Besides, the weather is quite pleasant and serves as a paradise for strollers, and nature lovers. The place has a huge number of rhododendron flowers, fir, pine and oak trees around it.

Made by the redirecting stream of common slope streams, the stone greenhouses of Dalhousie are totally superb. It includes rocks strewn crosswise over characteristic surges of water and rich green surroundings disregarding the eminent mountains and perfect air.

Rang Mahal is a rare combination of British and Mughal style architecture founded by Raja Umed Singh.  This beautiful architecture or culture attracts the huge number of visitors every year.

Bakrota hills is the highest area in Dalhousie and is circled by a raod called Bakrota walk. This road takes you to Khajjiar but tourists come there to just have a glance at majestic snow capped mountains visible from the point.

As you ascend from Bakrota hills, you reach the spell binding Khajjiar. The very popular and exquisite Valley of Khajjiar is nothing less than Switzerland. Located at an approximately 1,920 meters above sea level, Khajjiar is a honeymooners paradise and makes up for a romantic destination. Thick deodar forests and pine trees surround the beautiful green pastures of Khajjiar. A lake in the middle of the green ground is all the more enchanting and strikingly beaufiful.

The 12th-century Khajji Naga temple is one of the ancient and holiest temples in Himachal Pradesh. The temple is dedicated to Khajji Nag, the lord of serpents. Khajjiar got its name from the Khajji temple. Located near Khajjiar Lake, the dome-shaped temple has Pandavas and Kauravas' images hanging from its roof.

Many beautiful villages are situated within the dense forest of deodars and pine trees. Villages like Rota, Ladi, etc are located close to slopes and are famous for their apple and apricot orchards.

Kalatop Wild Life Sanctuary is one of the popular wildlife sanctuaries in Himachal. The sanctuary is inundated with the species of wildlife including Leopard, Bears, Deer, Squirrel, Barking Goral, Serow, Langur, Jackal and Himalayan Black Marten. The walk towards the sanctuary is beautiful and green shadowed with the tall deodar and pine trees.  Wild Life Sanctuary is irrigated by the River Ravi which keeps it green and dense.

The Golden Devi Temple in Khajjiar is named due to the golden dome of the temple. Located on the edge of the Khajjiar Lake, the temple’s golden spire is a major attraction.

Do not miss out on visiting a magnanimous 85 ft statue of Lord Shiva, one of the tallest in the entire Himachal Pradesh.
