Gangtok

This is a beautiful monastery which is built in Chinese pagoda style design. It was rebuilt by the king Sikyong Tulku. It is one of the famous monastery of the Buddhism in Sikkim. People come here for praying and to get relief from their worries. Separate dwellings are created for the Monks. The monastery is opened from 6-4 for the pilgrims.

This is the largest monastery in the Sikkim and well designed and beautiful artistic work is done on it. This Monastery is also known in the world for the Kargyu teachings. The Rumtek monastery comprises of three multi storeyed which is amazingly designed. Nalanda Institute of Higher Buddhist Studies is also near by the monastery.

Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is a world renowned institute for the research of the Tibetan language and culture. The building is beautiful designed in Tibetan style which looks spectacular. There is also a museum in the institute which has rich collection of art work of Tibetan, old manuscript in Sanskrit, Tibetan & lepcha, statues, coins and thangkas. There is a library there which has a great collection of Tibetan literature and documents.

A winsome Lake surrounded with the hills and serene environment also known as “Changu Lake”. This lake is a glacial lake and remains frozen in the whole Winter. This lake gets the water from the melting water which originates from the near by hills. Alpine vegetation can be seen during the summer and autumn. Beside the lake there is also a Lord Shiva temple.

This is a temple of Punjab regiment martyr Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple who sacrificed his life for the nation. In his remembrance a memorial was constructed by Army which is also known as the Baba mandir. The Army still believes that his soul comes there every night and protect the Army.

Nathula Pass was the only way through which silk trade was done and was known with the name of silk route trade between India and Tibet. From the Nathula pass the Indo China border is few meters ahead which is fenced and guarded by the soldiers of the both countries. There is also a memorial of a soldier who lost his life in the war. This memorial was built to give him tribute.
