History of Coorg

Coorg has gone through various turndowns in the past. Different dynasties ruled over the Coorg namely the Cholas, Vijayanagara dynasty and the Hoysalas. During 2nd and 6th century Kadambas from Goa ruled over its northern part. The place witnessed horrific fight of Kadambas and Gangas in the 11th century. Later in 1956, it became the district and a major part of Karnataka.

Amazing Destinations of Coorg

Raja’s Seat: The place has derived its name from the King who used to visit this place during the dawn and dusk to enjoy the beauty of this place after that, this place is known with the name Raja’s seat. The Panoramic view of this place fascinates the tourists towards this place. The appealing view of elegant garden with the aroma of the colourful flowers and musical fountain make this place more beautiful. Toy train in the garden is the best thing to do.

Chettalli: Chettalli is a small village in the Coorg, which is famous for its coffee plantation. The aroma of the coffee is scattered in the air. Lush green meadows and sizzling tea gardens make this place one of the beautiful place of Coorg. The serenity of this place and the clean pathways besides the coffee garden looks very attractive.

Abbey Falls: By crossing the Chettalli village of Madikeri a mystical waterfall comes which can elate you and rejuvenate you. This waterfall receives the water of the Kaveri river which takes a turn at this point and this view is really eye catching. During the monsoon the waterfall becomes more alluring.

Brahmagiri Peak: A breathtaking peak which is surrounded by lush greenery, Luscious green trees and prospering meadows. From the top of the hill, you can enjoy the beauty of this place and its tranquillity. The place has rich diversity of flora and fauna. There is also a wildlife sanctuary where you can see different exotic species of Mascaque, Niligiri, Langur, wild cat, deer and flying squirrel etc.

Dubare Elephant Camp: Dubare elephant camp provides you the amazing opportunity to spend time with elephants. There are around 150 elephants over here. As these elephants are trained so, you can enjoy their different activities, one of them is elephant bathing. You can also enjoy coracle ride on the river.

Namdroling Monastery: Namdroling Monastery is a beautiful monastery built with bamboos which is also known as golden Temple. The outer walls of the monastery are designed with beautiful artwork of Tibetan style. It is the largest teaching centre of the Tibetan and Buddhist. The golden lord buddha statue is about 60 feet high due to this golden statue this is known as golden temple.

Honnamana kere Lake:  The ravishing view of this lake is quite delightful. This beautiful lake has its spiritual significance. It has received its name from the Goddess Honnamana and there is also a temple of the Goddess Honnamana beside it. This beauteous lake is surrounded by the coffee gardens, enchanting hills and man-made caves.

Medikeri Fort: This beautiful fort has a great historical significance. During 17th century king Muddu made it with the mud later on Tipu sultan rebuilt it by using granite and then Britishers also changed its structure but still this fort is very beautiful. This place has the biggest tourist attraction because of its enthralling view.

Gaddige Raja’s Tomb: A beautiful tomb which is constructed in Indo Saracenic way. This place has a beautiful garden and a pond beside it. The pond has Charming lotus flowers. This is the perfect destination for the picnic and for having fun with family and friends.

Omkareshwara Temple: This is an ancient Lord Shiva temple which has its appealing architecture and it was built in 1820. People from different parts of the world come here to take the blessing of the lord shiva and enjoy the peaceful ambience of this place. There is a pool around the temple which has beautiful coloured fishes inside it. people love to spend time in the calmness of this place.

Nagarhole National Park: Nagarhole National Park is blessed with flourished diversity of flora and fauna. It lies in the Mysore city of Karnataka. Different species of Tiger, Panther, Gaur, Elephant, Mongoose, Hyena and different species of birds are found here. The park is surrounded by the Kabini river. Dense forest of the Nagrarhole park is the home for different species of animals and birds.
