Wayanad is a rural village in Kerala famous for the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, which is a lush, forested region with areas of high altitude. It houses rich fauna including Asiatic elephants, tigers, leopards and egrets. In the Ambukuthi Hills to the south, Edakkal Caves contain ancient petroglyphs, some dating back to the Neolithic age. Also the town is famous for its Coffee plantation and large coffee farms wherein you can enjoy the walks and fragrance of coffee beans. For those who are a huge coffee lovers, Wayanad is a place for you.

Kannur which is another destination of this offbeat tour is a coastal city and once served as an ancient trading port in Kerala. The major attractions here in this town are 16th-century St. Angelo Fort, once occupied by European colonial forces, show the city’s significant role in the spice trade. Housed in a former palace, the Arakkal Museum highlights Kerala's one Muslim royal family. The palm-fringed sands of Payyambalam Beach run along Kannur’s western shore.

Kasaragod, on the other hand is a land of rich biodiversity situated on Western Ghats and is famous for Chandragiri and Bekal Forts, Chandragiri River, historic Kolathiri Rajas, natural environment of Ranipuram and Kottancheri Hills, historical and religious sites like the Madhur Temple and Ananthapura Lake Temple, and Malik Deenar Mosque. It is located 585 km north of state capital Thiruvananthapuram and 50 km south of the port city of Mangalore.

Itinerary

Day 1: Day 2 Wayanad: Homestay in an exotic Coffee Plantation

As you arrive in Calicut or Bangalore (whichever is preferable by you) you will be safely transferred to Wayanad. Upon arrival in Wayanad, you will reach your homestay which belongs to a local family and is a beautiful cottage like home where you can stay like a home end enjoy your time with locals.

You will stay here till next day while enjoying the surroundings and observing the life of people in the town. Enjoy the local cuisines of the town, take a stroll, volunteer in the rubber and coffee plantations or just relax in your room. You can also explore the hilly regions of Wayanad by car, visit the historical caves of Edakkal or explore the tribal settlements of Chekadi by spending a night in the forest camp. Trek to the Chembra Peak, to the wildlife sanctuary zone or enjoy a deep jungle jeep safari, the choice is yours.

This is followed by an overnight stay in Wayanad.

Day 3: Day 4 Wayanad: Homestay in a Traditional Village

On day 3 and 4, you will be reaching a village homestay in Wayanad. You will drive towards the beautiful village of Thrikkaipetta where you will be residing with a family in a homestay. Explore the village plantations and hike to nearby hillocks. In the evening, enjoy local music and dance performances. Bigger groups can enjoy the dance performances by village artists and participate in local traditions, while understanding each other’s cultural heritage. Tourists also have the option of opting for a half-day or full-day cycling tour to South Wayanad.

This is followed by an overnight stay at Wayanad homestay.

Day 5: Kannur: Exquisite Beach Homestay

On day 5, you will be leaving for Kannur in a bus. Witness the beautiful panoramas and sleepy town that passes through tea plantations and dense teak forests. Enjoy the magnificent views along the way. You can also choose to opt for a car transfer. At Kannur, you will enjoy a homestay inside a tiny village situated at the confluence of backwaters and Arabian Sea. You could also relax and sunbathe at the beach, enjoy bird-watching in backwaters or take a trip to Bekal Fort. Enjoy the benefits of Ayurveda treatment or visit the art and craft village. You can spend the evening relaxing on a houseboat.

Day 6: Day 7 Kasaragod: Fascinating Homestay at a Private Island

On day 6 and 7, you will be transferred to a private island surrounded by backwaters in Kasaragod in a bus. You will spend the last two days of your trip here in an elegant stone cottage with an open rooftop shower and Kerala styled tiled roof. Appreciate and enjoy the hospitality of your hosts. Taste the wonderful cuisine or enjoy the fabulous views of the backwaters from your balcony. Relax with an Ayurveda massage and see how mussel farming in done in the waters surrounding the area.
