Description

India was ruled by Britishers for 200 years and before that Mughal ruled the nation. However, the only state or region in the country that was explored and ruled by Portuguese is Goa. Goa used to be the lucrative spice route for Portuguese when they arrived in India in 1510. This is the reason, Goa houses some astonishing Portuguese colonial architecture and heritage. You can witness the presence of Portugal rule by state’s rococo architecture, white churches, crumbling forts, fado music and spectacular churches of Old Goa.

Since, we talked about the spice route of Goa; it is delightful to know that food in India has great prominence. The scents, spices and flavours of Goa’s cuisine are surprisingly tangy and tantalizing. The classic fish curry rice, a morning bhali-pau (bread roll dipped in curry), a piquant vindaloo, with its infusions of wine vinegar and garlic, or a spicy xacuti sauce, the Indo-Portuguese influence is a treat for the taste buds. When you are here in Goa, don’t miss visiting a back-country spice farm to learn why the Portuguese loved Goa so much.

Anjuna in Goa is a place famous for weekly flea market and cannot be missed once you visit Goa. Decades old Anjuna Market was ideated by the hippies who wanted to fund their stay in Goa by selling their pair of jeans or handmade jewelry. Quite exciting and indigenous idea gave way to Anjuna’s famous weekly market. This yet another Goan culture should definitely be experienced once you visit Goa.
