The city of Alleppey has a wonderful past and owes its existence to sagacious Diwan Raja Kesavadas in the second half of 18th century. With is its rich history, Alleppey must be visited for its best weather that hardly goes above 35 degrees and lower than 20 degrees due to its close proximity with the ocean. So, it is always good time to visit this beautiful city of Kerala.
Also called the ‘Queen of the Arabian Sea’ since 14th century, the port has served as an important spice trading centre. Besides, it is the sixth best tourist destination in India as ranked by Outlook travel Magazine. Kochi Fort, colonial bungalows, catholic churches and other structures boasts the Portugal architecture and colonial settlement. Cantilevered Chinese fishing nets, typical of Kochi, have been in use for centuries.
The name ‘Munnar’ means three rivers. It is named Munnar as it is situated where three rivers namely Mudhirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly confluences. The town is known for its rich history in producing tea and its plantation. Also it houses the Tea Museum at the Nallathanni Estate that represents the region’s history of tea production. The ecotourism site Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary that protects a number of animal species is also housed by Munnar town.
Day 1: Arrival in Cochin (Kochi)
As you land in Kochi Airport/railway station, our cordial representative will dive you to the hotel. Upon arrival, check into the hotel and unwind from the fatigue of long journey. In the evening, explore the local markets of Kochi, take a stroll at the famous marine drive and enjoy the evening. Return back to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Cochin Sightseeing
On day 2 of your tour, visit Synagogue in the Jew town, the walls of the synagogue has been adorned beautifully hand -painted Chinese tiles in white and blue colors. Later visit Mattancherry Palace, Santa Cruz Basilica, Chinese fishing nets, Ernakulam Shiva temple, St. Francis Church, and others. You get to see an influence of Portuguese architect in the city and the Marine Drive in Cochin offers a beautiful walkway while enjoying the sunset on the beach. The evening is scheduled for enjoying a Kathakali performance.Return to hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Cochin - Munnar (approx. 4 hours)
On Day 3, you will be driven to Munnar, famous for its tea plantations. Upon arrival in Munnar, check into the hotel and rest for some time. A beautiful hill station in Kerala Munnar is blessed with abundant scenic pleasures. In the evening, a wildlife Safari at the Eravikulam National Park is scheduled for you. Here you can witness rare species of a kind of mountain goat, Nilgiri Tahr. Embark on a jungle safari inside the national park. Once back to the hill town, explore the old town market. Return to the hotel and stay overnight.
Day 4: Munnar
Day 4 is reserved for a local sightseeing tour of Munnar town. If evening safai wasn’t enough, go for a morning safari inside the Eravikulam National Park where you can spot several exotic animal species such as Tiger, Leopard, Nilgiri Tahr, Indian bison and more. The national park is a home to rich biodiversity with high elevation shoal-grassland ecosystem. Enjoy your day exploring the town and treat your eyes with the lovely lush views. Return back to the hotel and stay overnight.
Day 5: Munnar – Periyar
In the morning of day 5, take pleasure in leisure walk in the pristine tea gardens of Munnar town. Here you can spot Neela Kurunji, a rare flower species in the region. Later in the day, begin your drive towards Periyar. Upon arrival in Periyar, check in to the jungle resort and unwind from the long journey. In the evening, you will be out to take pleasure in bird watching and boating at the Periyar Lake. You would be able to spot several colorful species of resident as well as migratory birds here. Return to the lodge for an overnight stay.
Day 6: Periyar – Kumarakom
On day 6 of your Kerala tour, you will be driving towards Kumarakom, a town situated on the banks of Lake Vembanad. Upon arrival at Kumarakom, check in to the hotel or resort on the banks of Lake placid. Enjoy the magical view around the Lake while admiring the beauty of the Lake. Here, you can enjoy boating while spotting the colorful avifauna species. In the evening, explore the town and local markets for shopping the local specialties of the town. Later, return back to the hotel and enjoy the overnight stay.
Day 7: Kumarakom - Alleppey
On day 7, you will board the houseboat towards Alleppey. Cruise towards Alleppey on the house boat and enjoy the ride back to Alleppey while exploring the vast backwaters of Kerala. Enjoy your overnight cruise to Alleppey from Kumarakom while admiring the environs around. Spend the night on board and enjoy your night.
Day 8: Alleppey - Cochin for Departure
In the morning, you arrive at the beautiful Alleppey backwater. From here, de-board the houseboat. Later on, get transferred to the Cochin airport to board the flight to your onward destination.
